Once the illness seems to pass, a rash appears on the cheeks that looks like your child has been slapped on both sides of the face. The rash on your child’s cheeks will be bright red or pink. WebSlapped cheek syndrome is infectious for about 7 to 10 days before the rash sets in—it’s during this period that your child might experience the cold-like symptoms as well. When the rash appears, it’s a sign that your child is no longer infectious, so there’s no need to keep him or her home from school or childcare once that happens.
